Three Kings
Certificate: George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube
Length: 114 minutes Director: David O Russell
Rating: Set shortly after the Iraqi surrender in the Gulf War, four soldiers discover a map showing the location of hidden bunkers believed to contain the gold stolen by the Iraqi soldiers from Kuwait. The soldiers decide to go AWOL to locate and steal the missing gold bullion. When they get there, they discover the repressed local people desparate for their support to uprise against the Iraqi soldiers and the Saddam regime.

The film is torn between its serious story, and the director's desire to appeal to the MTV youth generation with his jerky directorial style. The result is something that sits uncomfortably in the middle, and fails to appeal to either audience. Mark Wahlberg looks uncomfortably mis-cast in places, and George Clooney can add another film to his list of failed chances.

Just like the soldiers go into the action gung-ho style, the director has killed a potentially good story with his own gung-ho style.
